With Hurricane Sandy to reach New Jersey in just hours, we want to make sure everyone is prepared and aware of the resources available as well as shelter information and emergency contact numbers.

Hurricane Preparations

During a hurricane the public will be advised to:
    • Listen to local radio.
    • Lave flashlight ready
    • Make arrangements to stay with family of friends in unaffected area if required to evacuate.
    • Public Shelter locations will be announced. BCOEM and BCDHS will assure that shelter arrangements are available and communicated.
    • Keep a full tank of gas and move car to higher ground.
    • Remove or move important papers to sturdy water proof container if time allows
    • Pack personal items such as prescription drugs, eye glasses, personal hygiene supplies, diapers and formula.
    • Stock clean water (one gallon/person/day) and water purifying supplies such as chlorine in a child safe spot.
    • Move pets to safest spot available since they will not be taken into public shelters
    • Evacuate when requested by authorities. Turn off electric, gas and water if time allows. Take packed personal items.
