2013 Lyndhurst Police Emergency Squad is raising breast cancer awareness by wearing Pink Gloves in October.

Every October businesses and charities use the color Pink to increase awareness about breast cancer and to promote raising funds to research a cure for the disease. LPES has joined the cause and encourages the community to do the same. The Pink Gloves are from Medline.  Medline is donating a portion of the proceeds from each sale of the Generation Pink® gloves, and other Medline pink branded products, to the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF). Since 2005, Medline has committed more than $1.2 million to the NBCF to help fund mammograms for individuals who cannot afford them as well as other educational and prevention resources.

Please visit www.cancer.org for more information about self examining for early detection and to learn more.

Give Blood or Donate to the Food Pantry While You Listen to “Music Under The Stars”

The Lyndhurst Police Emergency Squad will be holding a food and blood drive during the “Music Under The Stars” Program from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Wednesday, July 10, Friday, July 12, and Saturday, July 13.

The goal is to collect an ambulance full of food which will help the over 125 Families serviced from the Lyndhurst food Pantry. Our goal for the blood drive is 125 blood donors. These blood donors will help over 300 people and will allow the Emergency Squad to receive a grant from the Blood Center of NJ for new medical equipment. Every two seconds someone in America receives a lifesaving blood transfusion—this year alone more than 5 million patients will need blood.

Every blood donor will receive a BCNJ Tee Shirt, a free large Italian ice at the Lyndhurst Pastry Shop, and a chance to win a Kindle Fire HD. All food drive donors that contribute 5 items will also be entered in the Kindle Fire HD drawing.

Information on A Cup of Joe for  a Joe:

Each $2 raised provides a different Service Member with a Cup Of Joe gift.  The freshly brewed cups of coffee are served at Green Beans Coffee cafes on the bases where they’re deployed.   The whole idea behind Cup Of Joe For A Joe is to give folks here at home an opportunity to send a Cup of Joe (Troops call them a COJ) and a letter of thanks to a Soldier, Airman, Sailor, Marine or Coast Guardsman overseas. Because the person here at home who sends the COJ and the Service Member who receives it are matched on a completely random basis, you don’t have to personally know anyone who is serving overseas in order to send a Cup Of Joe.

Troops deployed overseas in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) or Operation New Dawn (Iraq) sign up to participate in Cup Of Joe For A Joe by enrolling on Green Beans Coffee website or at the Green Beans cafe on their base.
